Woolworth’s brand electric hand mixer. Took a photo for the weird control layout.

The label for the eject button is on the body of the mixer. The label for the speed selector is on the eject button – and there’s this mysterious turbo button (yeah I know I should RTFM for that one). No on/off switch, so if you’re at high-speed and run into trouble you have to run all the way down the speeds to zero. Which is not an easy-to-manipulate control. It would be more acceptable if it was a lateral up-down slider with thumb grip.

With an appliance like this, you’d expect the big fuck-off button to be an emergency off switch, although the flimsy electric beaters aren’t likely to actually rip fingers off.

Use a hand mixer to combine the remaining ingredients. It aerates the meat so it doesn’t pack too tight and it’s much faster than by hand. Plus your hands don’t get so darn cold.

Next step

Made chocolate chip cookies tonight. Couldn’t find the hand mixer so I used an immersion blender instead!

Our hand-mixer always looks like some strange little alien to me. I need to actually setup a worthwhile shot and redo this as I think it has potential.
